"Good care but painful DVT stockings"

About: St James's University Hospital / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

I have been having brachytherapy at Rutherford suite, Bexley Wing, St James, Leeds. Thanks to all the staff for the care shown to me.

On the recovery ward I was experiencing a lot of pain in my toes. The following morning I looked at them. The DVT stocking elastic ring was round all of my toes and had dug in an excessive amount.

I don't want to complain but to save other patients the same pain that I went through, can you educate nursing staff on how these stockings should be correctly fitted please.

Dear Lichade

Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your feedback from your recent stay with Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

I am very happy to read that the clinical care you received met your expectations.

I am very sorry that you had problems with your support stockings and that they caused you pain.

I have passed your comments onto the matron for the Rutherford Suite and asked that your feedback regarding the support stockings is shared with all the team.

Once Again, thank you for taking the time to write to us.

With kindest regards

Update posted by Lichade (the patient)

Dear Rosie.

I am pleased that my story was taken in a positive way & not regarded as a complaint, because it wasn't a complaint. We never stop learning and the nurse that put the stockings on me showed me care and was reassuring. It is good that a member of staff can be shown the correct way to do something without any form of disciplinary action and forms the basis of a sound team. I hold St James Hospital in the highest regard.

Thank you for the care and excellent treatment.

Kind regards

Lichade (Richard).
