"Heart patient with chest pains attending a&e"

About: Newham General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My father was getting heart pains, considering hospital was 10 minutes drive, I drove him down rather then calling an ambulance as they can take care of people who are not so fortunate with a car and with an emergency. Driving him down was my worse mistake a they did not take it serious at all. Attended the hospital, made him wait in majors standing up for 15 minutes before 1 of 15 odd staff wondering about chatting away, then eventually got seen and got told to wait for some blood tests and ecg. These tests got done in about an hour then was taken to a waiting room and left on some metal and uncomfortable benches stating u will get ur results and be seen in about 20 minutes. With pain coming and going, with severe heart conditions and several heart by pass operations in the past, they left my father waiting from 10.00 pm till 1.32pm in that waiting area, with no one giving and updates, we eventually went back to the majors reception to find out if we have not been forgotten about, nurse then stated oh u still have 5 ppl in front, and looking at minimum of 3.5 hours more wait. Just seemed like because we did not call the ambulance they did not take my father seriously. My dad stated he cannot wait on those metal seatings provided and needs to rest back, then they assumed we said, we need to leave and stated it's up to u but it's a chest pain and I suggest u stay but if u still want to leave then I can't stop you. We was shocked, tired of waiting, no time scale given whilst waiting so long, healthy person can get ill waiting around like this let alone a heart patient. They did not show no concern and said I can discharge u, n u can go doctors and get ur results tomorrow. There was no way we was going to wait in that area till 5am which will be 7 hours and that in majors with chest pain. Appalling service, we live in a country where we have moved so forward with in the last 10 years, but Newham hospital seems like it's gone back 30 years. Appalling and tired nurses who maybe doing over time, and are tired that cannot even treat ppl with life threatening condition seriously. Appalling. We left after waiting almost 3 hours as we felt we was pushed to leave indirectly. I hope and only hope this improves as this is worrying now
