"Waiting for an appointment"

I have had ongoing worsening symptoms of an autoimmune problem since Sept 2016 with a lot of related history. After numerous visits and tests by gp referred to Rheumatology in January 2017. History of RA in the family but still waiting for an appointment. The original for 23 March was cancelled due to consultant ill health so upsetting and despite letter from Drs to department suggesting priority, new appointment still not forthcoming. In constant pain unable to take NSAIDs due to allergic reactions and still trying to work full time in a demanding job. I was under the impression patients with RA symptoms should be seen within 2-3 months for better outcomes in the future where is this preventative care?
