What I liked
I was traveling in Europe when I was admitted to St. Mary's. I'm from the US and used to hospitals in America, which differed from St Mary's. St. Mary's staff got me in quickly and seemed to care about the pain I was in. All of the doctors were knowledgeable and they diagnosed me quickly. I was admitted and got the appropriate medication in a timely manner. I was admitted to the Witherow Ward and found it to be extremely clean and organized. I appreciated the help I received from the nurses, and the information the doctors gave.
What could be improved
The nurses at night seemed to be less attentive than those during the day. The ward got pretty hot and I asked for a fan one night, they continued to tell me they were looking but I ended up falling asleep and never getting one. Luckily, one of the healthcare assistants quickly got me one when he saw my fever combined with the stuffiness of the ward was getting to me.
There were a few other instances like this, where night nurses seemed to take their time, or say things to appease me until I fell asleep rather than making sure they were listening and helping.
Anything else?
I was discharged after a few days and was able to fly home to the US, where my current doctor's office doesn't quite meet my new expectations of what a hospital should be like!
