Wow!, what can I say...... The whole experience from beginning to end was exceptional.

After having my initial consultation at Haywards Heath, I was a little apprehensive when the appointment came through for Lewes, a hospital I knew nothing about. I felt a bit better after visiting the hospital for a pre-op assessment a week or so before surgery. My husband said it was like the old fashioned "cottage" hospitals and he was quite impressed, especially as there was free on-site parking.

On the 17th June 2009, I arrived for my gynaecological day surgery on Robinson Ward and I have to admit that, even though I was very nervous, the whole experience was wonderful. The nursing staff were all so lovely, really caring and attentive and cheerful and made me feel much more at ease. The Consultant and Anaesthetist came and introduced themselves and explained what they were going to do and made sure that I was happy about everything and I felt that I was in good hands. Bedside manner is so important when putting people at ease. The Consultant came back on the ward after surgery to make sure I was ok and tell me what his findings were.

My husband was treated extremely well and was allowed to stay on the ward the whole time which was reassuring for me.

We said that we couldn't have asked for more even if we'd gone down the "private" route because the care I received from the whole team that day at VHL was first class.

What could be improved

I don't believe anything could have improved my experience. We've often said that it would be a good thing to bring back "Matrons" and in-house cleaning staff and we experienced both of those here. I jokingly told the cleaner that she should be cloned and put in every hospitals as she was constantly cleaning. I doubt you'll find any germs in this ward!

Anything else?

I would like to say that I received the very highest level of care at this hospital and wouldn't hesitate to go there again or recommend it to others.
