Currently an in-patient, as a spouse I find that there is little communication. Staff from nurses to kitchen staff have difficulty making themselves understood. No doubt they are qualified but spoken English language leaves a lot to be desired. Crane ward is for the elderly and I witnessed staff shouting at patients because they cannot make themselves understood as their accents are too strong. On two occasions I asked to speak with the SALT team, no one came near me, just assessed from patients notes. I find this a lack of courtesy and totally ignorant. No one listens, more than 12 times I advised that my partner's temperature is usually on the low side as is the BP, no one made a note of this. Consequently when the temperature dropped he was warmed up to a point where he became unwell. I even spoke with a doctor on the telephone to no avail. This ward puts more importance on not having more than 2 visitors at a time and woe betide if you arrive before 2.00pm, this is a criminal offence. Elderly people gain a lot of comfort from having their loved ones around them and this ward should be less restrictive.
I am not interested in contacting PALS they don't do anything either.
