"Keeping My faith alive"

About: women's mental health (Spencer South)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

When I was little I went to a small village church but the Sunday School & people weren’t very nice. I stopped going to church but still counted myself as a Christian.  Now my church is where all my friends are and they still send me presents whilst I’m at St Andrew’s even though they are at university.

Whilst in the CAMHS pathway at St Andrew’s I struggled with my faith as I wasn’t well. The chaplain came to see me and played me music. It was like having a friend and kept my faith alive. My current church has been really supportive whilst I’ve been in St Andrew’s and have kept in touch with me which is really nice.

I keep my faith alive in St Andrew’s by talking to my friends over the phone, writing letters or talking to my mum & dad. I also think about all the good times I had on camps away with my church. Listening to music helps such as My Lighthouse by Rend Collective. It reminds me a lot of church where we had a live band.

I enjoy having regular chaplaincy visits as it helps remind me what I am fighting for in my life.

I like the Prayer & Praise services because I like listening to the readings and having responsibilities to help out. I do like traditional music sometimes but I feel more connected with modern music and when I can hear the instruments being played. It would be good if we had more of this style of music in the chapel.
