What could be improved
The service would be greatly improved if more thought was given to patient call times. I was asked to have nil by mouth from midnight and to be at the Treatment Centre by 9 a.m. next morning, but I was kept waiting until about 4:30 pm before the procedure began. I can understand they need about 2 hours’ leeway in case of unforeseen complications, but 7.5 hours is excessive. Also the chairs in your Reception area are not suitable for a long wait; I felt there was a danger of DVT due to sitting in them so long; yes, of course I got up and walked about now and again but this is still unsatisfactory. The delayed procedure meant that I was too late for the ward evening meal, having fasted for about 17 hours. All that could be offered by the nurse were 4 very small triangles of sandwich from the ward fridge. Fruit was available but I felt it would be too acid.
Anything else?
More trivially, the TVs in the ward seemed to be linked and would not change channel independently and there were no headphones available. This is not a high level of service.
