Can someone explain to me please why hospital prescriptions cannot be fulfilled at the patients own local surgery/pharmacy if they so choose?
Yesterday after my out-patient appointment like many patients I needed to get a prescription made up. I was told this would take an hour. I couldn't believe it, and this was already on top of my out-patient appointment running an hour late at the end of the day. I'm sure the pharmacy at Broomfield hospital do their best for patients, but to my mind and considering the size of the hospital which ever expanding it is far too small for purpose and just isn't able to cope with current demands.
How much easier it would be for patients if they had the choice of being able to have their prescriptions made up at their own local pharmacy instead of having to wait unrealistic times with the current set up, not to mention the pressure it would take off the hospital pharmacy. Medical electronic systems all talk to each other these days so there is no reason why prescriptions cannot be traced if required wherever you have them fulfilled.
