"I was very impressed with my treatment ..."

About: Eccleshill NHS Treatment Centre

What I liked

I was very impressed with my treatment at Eccleshill NHS Treatment Centre.

After being referred for a gynaecological problem by my GP, I attended an initial appointment with a consultant within 2 weeks. Once I had decided to proceed with treatment it was just 3 weeks later that I had my operation.

Prior to my appointment I received an information pack in the post so I knew what to expect. I also received a courtesy telephone call the evening before my operation.

I had to arrive at the centre quite early - 7:30am, but I was quickly taken onto the ward which seemed very clean and well-run. The staff were professional and appeared organised, efficient and thorough. They were also friendly, approachable and reassuring.

I had to wait a couple of hours between arriving at the centre and going into theatre, but at no time did I feel 'forgotten about' or unaware of what of what was happening. There was a comfortable lounge area where patients could wait and relax. It had plenty of newspapers and magazines to help pass the time.

After waking up after my operation, I was made comfortable and offered a cup of tea and some toast. Once I felt able to, I could get dressed again and prepare to leave. I was not pressured to move before I felt ready.

Once a nurse had gone through post-treatment advice with me and given me an information sheet, she called my partner to come and collect me. I left the centre around 4 hours after I'd arrived.

I was given a telephone number I could call if I had any problems or concerns that afternoon or overnight. The following morning a staff nurse called me to check that all was well, which it was.

What could be improved

Nothing. I couldn't fault my treatment.

Anything else?

Eccleshill NHS Treament Centre is accessible and has good parking facilities. The building itself is pleasant with a bright and airy reception area.

If I ever find myself as a patient there again, I won't have any worries or anxieties about it.
