The chaplains have helped me through rough times, in particular Imam Abbas. With the chaplains I am able to talk about anything, and not feel any pressure. I feel like I am able to speak what is on my mind. They are able to support me in my faith and stay true to their word when they say they will help me with something alongside advocacy. I like being around the chaplains as we are able to share happiness with each other. I know that if I need to get hold of the chaplains I can use the patient phone.
My faith has developed whilst being in St Andrews Healthcare and I have now started following Greek Orthodox tradition. I feel like I am able to communicate my thoughts and feelings about God and my beliefs to patients and staff on the ward, whilst not feeling uncomfortable about it. Father Robert helps me with my faith by bringing me communion.
Whilst being on Richmond Watson in Northampton, we made with my peers a St Andrew’s inspired Monopoly game where we made the little pieces from air dried clay. Instead of the boot, car and boat, we had a phone card and needle. We turned all the places on the original board into ward names and had Smyth House and Workbridge as the utilities. Sadly it got lost a long time ago.
It would be good if there were more posters up on the wards about what is happening within the chaplaincy department as we don’t know unless we are reminded on the day. I didn’t know about the Ash Wednesday service until the day after when Rev. Neil Tyrer came and told me. I couldn’t go anyway but would like to attend other services happening within the Multi-Faith Room.
If I had to describe the chaplaincy department in three letters it would be: G-R-8!
