"I have no complaints about any of the people who dealt with me"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Urology NHS 111

(as the patient),

I had had a kidney stone twice in the past and a doctor arrived gave me a morphine injection which did not kill the pain. So on both occasions after about 15 min. they gave me another dose of morphine which sent me to sleep and when I awoke in the morning and used the toilet the stone and pain was gone. Doctors time less than a hour on both occasions.

I started with a K. S. again. I called the 1-1-1 service as I was in severe pain, during the 1/2 hour it took to get my details etc. the pain subsided and I thought I must have passed the stone so I cancelled the visit. A few hours later,  I was again in agony and called the 1-1-1 service again and had to again go through the full process.

The 1-1-1 people eventually arrived and  I was given codeine and then an injection  that eased the pain a little. I was left with codeine and paracetamol which did not stop the pain for long and eventually had to again call 1-1-1.

They had nothing more they could give me but told me I could increase the dose of codeine. They tried to get permission to be authorised to give me an injection of something but were told no and to get me taken into hospital.

The ambulance did not come and I was in agony once again, so I then called 999. The ambulance arrived about 6 hours after my call. They put me on gas and air which did help but whilst waiting in the corridor at the hospital I got a sharp chest pain and had to stop the gas and air. ( I previously had had an heart attack) The pain then once more got very severe. The ambulance man talked with the others and they came up with drinkable morphine. This did take the edge off the pain for a short while but we were in the corridor for about 2 hours before he tried to get a doctor which he was unable to do but he did find a room. I was left alone for about 45 min and could not stand the pain any longer so

I went into reception and asked for someone to please stop the pain. I have a naturally loud voice and the nurse thought I was shouting at her, which was not meant so I went back to the bed, About 3/4 hr later a doctor arrived and I do not remember any more. I have no complaints about any of the people who dealt with me and the people om Clayton ward were very good indeed.

HOWEVER, the SYSTEM meant that I was in constant pain, a lot of which was very sever pain for about 26 hrs  and ended up in hospital for 8 days and now have Kidney`s that could be a lot better. Blame? I am not really interested, I tell my story in the hope that never again will anyone have to go through what I had to.

Update posted by Red Sandy (the patient)

The time I waited in A&E was small compared to the time I had to wait to get to A&E. when the paramedic found me a room he had been trying to get a doctor but was unable to do so. I got the impression that everyone was doing what they could and were busy. There is a limit to what a given number of people can do and I believe that they were doing it. Other than having more people and space I do not see what more anyone could have done and I have no answers, or blame to cast. However, the fact remains, the whole system caused me to be in sever pain for far to long.
