"I have been refused a sick/fit note & another appointment by my GP Practice"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

Complaint about Carden Medical Practice where I have been registered as a patient for many years.

They have written to me telling me that the practice won't give me an appointment to see (another) doctor regarding my request for a doctor's sick/fit note.

I wrote to them by email asking them to review their decision and make me another appointment?

I have no income. I am desperately in need of a sick/fit note for my appeal.

I have been registered as a patient with Carden Medical Practice for many years and never before have I experienced such difficulties with the practice. I cannot imagine that I would have denied me the help that I urgently need.

Why won't Carden Medical Practice help me, one of your patients who is in desperate need?

Is the practice content to see me with no income, no money, no ability to pay my bills, struggling to pay my rent? Do you want me driven to food banks, begging on the streets and homeless? That would certainly ruin my health and likely drive to me to an early grave.

Is hard to believe that the practice is so indifferent to my needs for social security.

Please have mercy on your patient who is in desperate need

Hello,

I have been in touch with Carden Medical Centre and noted their response below:

'Dear Stressed from Aberdeen,

We do understand that you are feeling frustrated at what must be difficult time for you.

When doctors are asked to issue fit/sick notes or sign any paperwork, they have to use their professional judgement to whether the requested statement is true and an appropriate one for them to make. Doctors also have a responsibility to the public bodies that oversee medical practitioners in the UK and can only provide statements they can justify on clinical grounds. This is the basis on which the Practice deals with any requests for fit/sick notes.

If you still have unanswered questions following your recent contacts with the Practice, please contact the Practice Manager who is happy to go over these with you.

Thank you for your feedback and please do contact the practice if you need to discuss further.

Best wishes,

Carden Medical Practice'

Update posted by Stressed from Aberdeen (the patient)

Hello Kirsten,

I have to say that your reply hasn't turned out to be all that helpful for the simple reason that whereas you quoted what Carden Medical Practice said on Tuesday 14th March, by the very next day, Wednesday 15th March, Carden Medical Practice had contacted Practitioner services to have me removed from their patient list!

Shocking news - as of today I no longer have a GP!

I have just this morning received a letter from NHS Practioner Services (copy attached) informing me and I quote

"Removal from General Practitioner Lists

We have been asked by Carden Medical Centre to remove you from their patient list because of a breakdown in the patient-doctor relationship.

This means that you will no longer be registered with your current GP Practice after 23rd March.

You are advised to register with another GP practice as soon as possible before the above date"

So now I am left without any GP, without anyone to write me the "Statement of Fitness for Work" that I urgently need for evidence to support my appeal to an independent tribunal for the restoration of my Employment and Support Allowance.

Talk about being thrown to the wolves! That's just what Carden Medical Practice has done to me, after 25 or so happy years as a registered patient with them!

Help me please! I've been abandoned by my GP in my hour of need, in an escalating social security crisis!

HELP!
