"The friendly receptionists on ..."

About: The Midlands NHS Treatment Centre

What I liked

The friendly receptionists on the ground floor and the upper level. The nurse was attentive, friendly and carried out pre-consultation medication after checking with the doctor.

What could be improved

Arriving here by public transport the walk to the centre from the main road is frankly appalling. A nightmare of uncertain, narrow, contorted often obstructed walkways. ie motorbikes parking area obliging patients to walk on the roadway. For the elderly it is a very risky undertaking and needs urgent review by the health and safety management. Accommodation for vehicles has been at the expense of pedestrians.

Anything else?

After pre-consultation attention at the nursing station a wait of an hour allowed observation of the medical staff. One Consultant, who unlike others actually came out to the corridor shouted out the name of an elderly lady - in mocking tone as she was obviously disabled and deaf. It was meant to be lighthearted but actually seemed disrespectful.

A medical sales representative was making his presence known and obtaining lengthy meetings with consultants. This was the main reason for our protracted wait and as such unacceptable. Rep's should be seen ONLY by appointment. We received an apology for this - but the whole aura of this area smacked of liesurely unconcern. At the least - have someone properly attend the waiting room area and respectfully seek out the next patient. Advice where appointment times are beyond half an hour would be a considerable help. We support respect for our doctors and nurses - totally. However it should not be a one-sided consideration,
