I had tvt mesh put in in 2010 at Lewes and was not told of any possible complications. soon after I began to get hamstring, groin and buttock pain. This took years for me to have diagnosed. I linked it to mesh but consultant at Haywards Heath stated it was hamstring tendinitis. I continued to have severe bilateral groin pain as well as hamstring pain. Every gp I saw said they had never heard of mesh complications. I insisted on referral to a urogynaecologist when pain continued along with perineal numbness, and feeling of obstruction in vagina. I was sent for 2 MRI at Haywards Heath for suspected cauda equina despite insisting that I thought it was linked to mesh. Finally saw urogynaecologist at Shoreham. The examination was so painful it made me cry but they said they had no knowledge of mesh complications. They sent me for scan to check reason for extreme pain at urogynaecology at Royal Sussex and to try out an option which would not involve removing the mesh. They found nothing sinister. Finally I found mesh support site and others with same symptoms as me. This was the first time my suspicion was vindicated. No one in medical profession had acknowledged any complications from mesh pain until this time. I paid to see a consultant in London from UCLH who acknowledged that my pains were a familiar indication of mesh injury. This after 6 years of pain. I now have constant vaginal and groin pain, and nerve pain down legs. Removal could make things worse. I had mesh put in so I could do sport without incontinence but cannot do any sport without severe pain now. Mesh ruined my life and angry that medical professionals never acknowledged that mesh can cause this pain.
I am still waiting for a new appointment at Eastbourne and I think I may still be awaiting surgery for mesh removal at UCLH. I sought the opinion of the consultant at Eastbourne because I think they have a different approach to mesh removal and I don't know which person is best to go with.
"No one believed my mesh implant was causing my pain"
