"My mum is currently a patient ..."

What I liked

My mum is currently a patient in Roding ward. Unfortunately this is a return admittance. The staff are very welcoming and take great care of her and her needs. As a family we have been always informed of her ongoing care and we couldnt wish for her to be in a better place than where she is at. We feel very fortunate that she has a bed here which in turn has relieved much anxiety on our part too, particularily at such a stressful time. The staff are outstanding on this ward.

What could be improved

The admittance proceedure has alot to be desired. As an emergengy a &e admittance to PAH we sat around for over 10hrs waiting for a bed which was eventually found in Chelmsford miles away from home. This was a really bad, stressful time for the family and various helplines we called could not give any help due to age group(over 60). The proceedures did not make it easy for her admittance and i hate to think how others would cope without a supportive family to sort out the mess, especially if not in a stable mind frame. I still feel angry that we were let down through bureaucracy at this vital stage - and that was only the half of it!

Anything else?

The staff at Roding do a fantastic job. However I do feel that they are under constant pressure and should have more support and help through the trust. It is a vital service they are providing and should be recognised for it.
