"If you want nothing done then choose Purley 1 ward"

About: Croydon University Hospital / General medicine

If you want nothing done then choose Purley 1 ward for vulnerable patients. No one is better suited for the task.

If you imagine what the National Health would be like as an uncaring bureaucracy then spending time with vulnerable family member in Purley 1 ward will tell you all you need to know. Staff spend more time huddled in meeting rooms than responding to basic nursing activities, attending to basic patient needs and treating people as just that - people. An elderly relative was in Purley 1 ward. I was horrified to witness the lack of care, lack of communication and inability of the nurses to even look a patient in the face let alone provide care.

Thank you very much for sharing your poor experience which raises a number of serious concerns. I apologise for the delay in my response however I think it is important that we investigate further. Your concerns have been shared with the senior nursing team so that they are aware of your dissatisfaction, and I would urge you to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) so we can get some more detail from you.

Our PALS office may be contacted by telephone on 020 8401 3210 or by email at ch-tr.pals@nhs.net. The office is open during the week from 9am to 4:45pm.

Kind Regards

Hilary Frayne
