I had been in previous inpatient settings prior to The Burrows, I was being transferred from a low secure unit and it was meant to be a step down. I was very distressed and I kept asking for 1: 1 support but I would be declined due to staff shortage. They would only speak to me when I was in crisis in which resulted to me being restrained and even then they would only tell me to comply with them or they will inflict pain to control me and use an injection to sedate me, I have now been diagnosed with a slipped disc and when explaining the types of restraint I have been in my physiotherapist pinpointed it was most likely to come from the restraints The Burrows used.
The staff were very quick to restrain and seemed to use pain to control us, and they would always use prone restraint (face down). The medical team were blunt and always rushed the appointments, they seemed to belittle me and called me attention seeking, They would never tell my parents what happened until I did, It was decided to transfer me to a medium secure unit and they didnt tell me until an hour before I left, I was sent in a white van which had a caged cell at the back and I was treated like a criminal.. I would not recommend this unit to anyone from my experience, it seemed a hell hole to me, they use pain compliance and are very quick to section you and seclude you in my experience.
