My mum has been in palliative care at home for 3 years now, supported by her GP, DN team and excellent team of carers based in Chapel St, Pontnewydd. I live 100 miles away and look after my mum 12 days a month. Just had a call from her GP at 8pm on a Friday night to let me know that the GP had been out to see mum and had issued antibiotics for a chest infection. Also let me know that mum's DNR seems to have been moved, so I need to check where it is kept and get back to her if it has been misplaced so that she can put another in place. She reassured me that it was probably OK for now, but just something to check on as mum wants to be looked after at home. Also filled me in on mum's health and said how good her carers were. Feels like proper 'old-fashioned' GP care, who knows mum well, had read her notes, knew her wishes and spent at least 15 minutes on the phone to me. The NHS at its best.
"Good experience with GP"
