"I was referred by my doctor last ..."

About: Horsham Hospital

Anything else?

I was referred by my doctor last Sunday morning (9 Nov) for an emergency appointment. I had difficulty swallowing, my throat hurt and one side of my neck was slightly swollen and I was afraid that a bad bout of tonsillitis had returned, although I had only finished a 10 day course of antibiotics two days earlier. The doctor told me I had mumps, inspite of me telling her about the tonsillitis, and precribed paracetamol and rest. I suffered great and increasing discomfort over the next couple of days, finally ending up in A&E at Worthing on Tuesday am where I was very quickly diagnosed with Quinsy. They were dubious from the outset that I actually had mumps, particularly as I had received all my childhood immunisations and I am really disappointed that the doctor at Horsham did not pick up that my tonsils were the problem two days earlier. All the symptons that I presented to her were classic quinsy, except for the fact that I was not running a fever and I hope that she can be advised of this mis-diagnosis so she can look at this possibility the next time someone comes in with my symptoms.

However, I would, at the same time, like to say that I was very grateful that I could be seen on that Sunday morning and think that Horsham Hospital provides a very useful and praiseworthy service to the local community.
