About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Maternity

Can with my daughter and husband to visit my great nephew we arrive on the ward and are told by 2 not so nice nursing staff that my daughter couldn't come on the ward as she was under 16 eventhough she is 16 in a weeks time we where told no under 16's allowed what's so ever but they let 3 under 6's on one of the midewifes then tells us we are welcome to wait in the family room but can't come on the ward

Thank you for your posting, which has been shared with the Trust's Governance Lead for Maternity and Child Health. From the outset I wish to apologise for your poor experience.

Your comment has been discussed with the Head of Midwifery and the Matrons, who are very sorry to learn of your experience on the Maternity Ward. Your concerns have been raised with the Maternity Ward Manager to discuss at staff handovers and we are also now looking into amending our visiting policy on the Maternity Ward in that rather than excluding children, we allow all ages, but restrict the overall numbers of visitors per bed, to ensure that patient safety is maintained.

I hope the Trust's actions are satisfactory; it is important to us that we have been given the opportunity to identify opportunities for learning and improvement, and again I would like to offer our sincere apologies.
