"I want to get out of hospital as soon as possible"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Hazelwell

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was previously in another hospital before coming here and I have been in St Andrew's on this ward for five months. I moved here because this hospital is closer to my family and friends. I don't like the no-smoking policy but I have to put up with it. I get no leave at the moment so I don't have the opportunity to smoke outside. The staff have helped me with the patches. I think the staff are ok - they are good and treat me well. They involve me in my care plans but I have never seen anything written down, not sure that I want to, but they ask me my views and I know that there are plans for me to get leave. The outcome that I want is just to get out of hospital as soon as possible and the staff have explained to me what I need to do to achieve this. It is ok here and is nearer to family but I think that the hospital that I was in before I came here was better than this one.

Thank you for this feedback. We have been smoke-free in Birmingham since October 2016, and it is really important that we get feedback about how this is going, and what we could do to improve things in relation to supporting people to stop smoking.

It is good that you feel that your views are sought when planning care. You may not want a copy of the formal care plan, but it might be worth talking to your care coordinator about whether there is an easy access format that might work better for you.
