What I liked
My mother was admitted to Newton Abbot hospital for pain relief. While allowed to go to the toilet unsupervised despite clear evidence of the fact that she was incompetent in the use of a walking frame, she fell and broke/fracutured her leg. It took two days for the break to be diagnosed. On being wheeled in a wheel chair, the footrest on the latter was not properly set and the broken leg became trapped between the wheel and the footrest. She reports hostile attitudes from some of the staff following my complaint about the case. Matron is investigating the situation.
What could be improved
Supervision of elderly patients.
Faster response times to alarm buttons being pushed
Training of people moving patients in wheelchairs
Attitude of some staff
Learn from the Whipton Case
