Had the best experience when expecting my first child on 17.01.17. When I finally went into labour on 25.01.17 the Maternity unit were amazing. They took my partner and me down to the Birthing Centre and we made ourselves comfortable in a spacious room with all different chairs, bean bags, a swiss ball and bed etc. It was clean and we had the option to have music and had aromatherpy lights and smells (which I made the most of!)
The midwifes were extremely friendly and talked me through what was happening and what they expected to happen next. They explained all my options to me and were very friendly and calming. When my daughrer finally made an appearance on 26.01.17, the midwifes gave me space by leaving me with my birthing partners so I could feed my baby. They offered advice when needed and due to circumstances let my sister visit me in the centre when this isnt normally allowed.
They really take care of you and make it personal rather than feeling like 'just another patient'.
