"Clean and Tidy modern building, ..."

About: Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre

What I liked

Clean and Tidy modern building, Friendly and professional staff. at time of operation.

What could be improved

1. No aftercare at all. Had Knee operation done, and other than immediate aftercare, no support or advice given. Have tried several times to see consultant again, but advised I have to go back to GP, to be referred again - Great in massive pain and another 3 month wait!!! No physio arranged, by hospital, again had to arrange through GP, and had to fight to get referred quickly, as said above, I have had problems with knee since op. Been 4 months now and still worse than before I went in for operation. I am aware now after my own research that Mercury do not arrange any of this after care etc. but that should have been clearly explained to me before operation, and I would have not used this hospital!!!

I have had operation done previously, privately, and I had none of these problems, everything was arranged and in place before I had left hospital, I am aware that some of this is because I went private, but I feel I have simply been binned by my consultant, just another tick in is case book for the day, that’s it. That is not the way I feel the modern NHS should be operating.

The only way I am now getting better is due to the commitment and help of the physio, I had to arrange, who to note can’t believe I have had no follow up appointments, or even able to get any.

I have noted in my case sheet that I have Ligament damage, one torn, this obviously is a concern to me and my physio, but no explanation available from consultant, as I can’t see him again, unless I am referred.

2. I feel I was released too quickly from hospital, on day of op. On getting into car and being driven home, I passed out after about 10 minutes, out cold, and took about 5 minutes to come too. My wife was given no warning or advice on the fact that this can happen, from what I am told it is not uncommon for this to happen. She almost had an accident she was so concerned. More information for person collecting would be an idea.

I will await with interest any comments on the above.
