"Avoid Orthopedics ward C7 wouldn't send Any..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Horrific experience, I will never let a family member go there. I was booked for knee surgery, I was advised things had been set in place for after surgery to avoid complications due to other health issues. On the first 2 days there where some great staff on duty, who actually cared for all the patients. But as soon as I started to have complications, it was horrid. New staff where working, it be came clear they where not staying on top of people's care, from missed meds to being given unprescribed medication, not once but regularly even after being questioned why that was being given out (the cost of wasted medication probably was quite alot daily) a patient who daily screamed with pain when any movement, for anything from 30mins to couple hours a few times daily, myself and others asked frequently was she OK, to be told yes fine, even after it was obvious to non medical staff she had distress concerning her stomach and we where told she was fine, she was still left until it became to much then it took more than 5 hrs of hearing her screams whilst they tried to "put a tube in as she has a blockage and so needs surgery" as we were told by a nurse. Obviously whilst they where dealing with the situation other patients did not receive there medication or obs as they where due to, and it was Very distressing to hear/witness. Besides this horrid treatment I witnessed, I was there for my health reasons and the staff had no idea of my condition, everything was pass the buck from who it was down to to prescribe meds, someone would come but the didn't know my case so couldn't do anything, to now everything is supposed to be put on computer, being told those notes/the conversation you had with the doctor, haven't been written up yet so we can't treat you till they are, when will they be written up you ask? In next few hours probably! DONT DO A JOB IN CARE IF YOU DONT CARE! IF YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT A MEDICAL CONDITION DONT BE RUDE TO THE PATIENT WHO LIVES WITH IT EVERYDAY AND KNOWS MORE ABOUT IT THAN YOU, THEY LIVE IN THEIR BODIES EVERY DAY BOOKS DONT TEACH YOU EVERYTHING AND NOT EVERY CASE IS THE SAME AS IN YOUR BOOK CASE STUDIES. If you or a family member have no option but to go there, don't leave them there, the horror stories you hear of in nursing homes happen in hospitals, without family watching out for them.
