Had a
MRI scan at Southport which as you can probably guess I was dreading- I am claustrophobic and was having butterflies in a big way prior to my appointment. I was terrified.I need not have been as I chatted to the staff about my fears adn they listened and chatted to me throughout the scan explaining what each scan was actually doing to me.. ie 'the next one will last for 1 and a half minutes and makes a banging sound etc- so I felt able to anticipate what was happening- even to the point of laughing- without moving! I'll name that noise in 3!I took a small towel to place over my eyes as I wanted to keep them closed throughout- I did some calming breathing too-this really helped me and a favourite CD which was a bit too relaxing as at one point Im sure I dozed off. Of course it is an experience- but one that puts you on the road to diagnosis and recovery and so is a positive thing and we are lucky to be benefitting from the technology we have unlike other countries. So if you were a big chicken like me- please dont be worried , it doesnt last long- in fact I could have stayed chilling in there for longer, the staff will reassure you and help you.
