"treatmentof elderly poor"

About: University Hospital Lewisham

I was in Larch ward in 2016 and on the whole was satisfied with everything - except the doctors! Different ones appeared each day and said contradictory things. The date of my discharge kept being changed (no explanation) and what was said to happen afterwards didn't happen. However, what I should really like to bring to your attention was the way an elderly (94, I think) was treated: nurses looked after her physical well-being well but left it at that. She had 1 visitor while I was there.and the rest of the time was left alone. Could no one have found the occasional 5 minutes to chat with her? I would have hated to be left like that. She had a broken leg so couldn't escape.

Sister Bethan Jones (from Larch Ward) and Matron Michelle Franklin would like to thank you for your positive comments related to your stay on Larch Ward in 2016.

I am very sorry to see that you had other comments that were not so good. You mention that you were given conflicting advice from doctors during your stay. I would be very happy to discuss these with you personally, and should you wish to do so you can contact me via the Patient Advice and Liaison service on 0208 333 3355.

We were both also saddened to hear about the elderly lady who did not have many visitors and are liaising with voluntary services to identify regular volunteers for the surgical wards to provide companionship for patients that find themselves in that position in the future.
