I was taken to A&E at Stepping Hill with flu-like symptoms and breathing difficulties. Although staff at A&E were clearly busy I was very quickly assessed by a doctor, and had blood taken etc. I was particularly impressed with the way all staff introduced themselves to me and explained what they were there to do. In fact, I still remember very clearly the names of the doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants who treated me. When I took a turn for the worse, the staff were incredibly quick to manage the problem, but also very reassuring so I didn't feel at all worried - despite how unwell I felt! I was then admitted to the Acute Medical Unit with pneumonia, and similarly I have to praise all the staff - for their professionalism, friendliness and humour, under what I should imagine is enormous pressure. I particularly have to thank the healthcare assistants on that ward, who were so incredibly helpful and compassionate.
My only minor (really minor! ) issues were that the food was not massively appetising - particularly the vegetarian options. Also, it would have been nice if the visiting hours at the AMU were a bit longer in the evening, as this is when family and friends were able to visit me.
Overall, though, I was very impressed during my stay (although I sincerely hope I never have to go back at any point! )
