"100% commitment, support, and care I am receiving from gps, while feeling failed by CMHT"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

About 3 weeks ago, I put a story on here, as I was feeling failed by CMHT. Every time I attended CMHT crisis team, I was feeling failed, as although I was was being listened to I was not being heard regarding my low mood and other mental health symptoms.

I felt that when speaking with cpns, there was too much emphasis put on my physical health, housing and social circumstances, and this was put at the root cause, as to how I am feeling, although I tried to convey that I didn't believe that this was the cause. I was not heard, and I felt that they were not willing to look beyond the above mentioned in order to help me.

I gave up. However, the GPs, Dr Pollock & Dr Gardiner, at Kilwinning medical practice I attend, did not.

I was referred for a assessment with a psychiatrist and earlier this week I was told that I was suffering with PTSD.

I have now been left with a small bit of hope that I am going to come out the other side.

However, I know within myself, that if it was not for the tremendous commitment, support, persistence and care that I have and am still receiving from these GPs, then the outcome would have been so different. A big thanks to my doctors.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear 711user,

Reading your post provoked several emotions within me.

Firstly, it is really good to hear you have a diagnosis. I believe this helps many people to understand why they feel the way they do, but very importantly, you can now get the treatment for your condition.

However, on he other hand, I am sorry you lost your confidence in the CMHT and we did not manage to do anything to change your mind about your care.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to come back to PO and give us your feedback. I will pass your post to both the GP practice and to the CMHT for their consideration. I am sure Dr Pollock & Dr Gardiner, Kilwinning medical practice will be delighted with your post.

I am very pleased you now have hope that you can see the end of the tunnel, even if it is a wee bit off in the distance and I sincerely wish you as rapid and full a recovery as possible,

best wishes,

Eunice
