"Only get 4 visits a year"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Womens Pathway

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I am from Wales and I was only told 24 hours before that I was moving. When I came to Spencer South initially I struggled. The staff could have been more friendly and welcoming and my first night was awful because of the 15 minute obs. Visits and contact with my family is not good. , I only get 4 a year and get Skype calls which are good when it works.

I am now on a different ward but I preferred Spencer South because the staff are better and more friendly to patients. I think there is poor communication between shifts and there are punishments such as taking mobile and unescorted away. I have a good RC, positive relationships with my Social Worker but poor interaction from the MDT. I would like to see the smoking ban change and bring back smoking.

Thanks for taking your time to share your story and experience regarding home visits. We understand that maintaining family contact is crucial for your journey to recovery and reintegrating back to the community. To say we fund 4 visit is for the purpose of budget planning and control however this does not mean you cannot have more where there is a need. This is reviewed and consideration given on individual basis by ward Social work, Nurse manager and rest of the team.We also provide financial help to family when they come to visit on the wards where necessary. Please discuss with your team and care coordinator if you require more support with this.
