"Heart attack care"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

I was sent to ACU (Ambulatory Care Unit) following a visit to my GP as I was suffering from back/ shoulder pain. I was soon given an an ECG followed by other tests. During the time awaiting the results I was given tea and sandwiches. When all results were ready I was informed that I had had a heart attack. After waiting a relatively short time I was admitted to CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) and after 7 days I was moved to ward A3. A day later I was sent to Wythenshawe for an angiogram and a day after that I was sent home. I feel fortunate indeed that I was in the care of Stepping Hill hospital. The staff were very professional and the nurses in particular deserve a special mention as they work so very hard. As patients have contact with many different members of staff I feel that clearer ID should be visible. A simple large name badge worn on the chest would be ideal. At present ID cards are either hidden in pockets, worn in difficult to see places, or hanging the wrong way round. In any case the name, where visible is very small.

Even though one of the (too) many different doctors spoke to me on the day of my discharge it would have better to have been given the paperwork at the same time and preferably by the consultant in charge of my care. Thank you for looking after me and I hope my suggestions are helpful.

I am sorry to hear that you had had a heart attack but was very pleased to hear that the staff who cared for you were professional and that you were looked after well, as this must have been a very distressing time for you. I would like to thank you for taking the time to post such positive praise for the staff who cared for you on wards ACU, CCU and A3 and we will ensure your feedback is shared with relevant staff. I have also passed on your suggestions to the management team.

I would like to wish you you well in your recovery.

Kind regards
