"Knee replacement surgery."

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

Was placed on Mr. Sharma's operating list for knee replacement in early August 2016 and after 23 weeks am still waiting for notification of surgery. I spoke to the secretary of Mr. Sharma in August and said that in order to speed things up that I was prepared to go onto any surgeons list. Numerous phone calls by myself and GP have failed to speed matters up. I think it is obvious that once you breach the 12 week guarantee treatment time then you are no longer a priority and I think that in order to manipulate treatment time statistics patients waiting 9, 10 and 11 weeks are the priority.

There are a lot of people who have experienced something similar as there appears to be a significant problem with breaches of the waiting time guarantee for orthopaedics at the RAH.

I have a number of cases which I have taken up and I am happy to do so for you if that would be helpful.

Please contact Lorraine in my office on 01389-734214 if you would like help.

Best wishes

Jackie

Hi there

Thanks a lot for getting in touch to share your concerns about the length of your wait for surgery on your knee and please accept my apology for the length of time you have already waited and the sense that communication has not been as it should be for you. Your feedback will help me tackle things and is very welcome.

We do have prolonged waits in the sector at the minute for knee replacement surgery because of capacity challenges and that is often compounded in the winter by a lot of trauma cases that take priority. We do book people in date order for surgery although some types of operations wait less time because of the smaller numbers and doctors specific skills. That being said, its not an excuse more just an explanation for things. More specifically, I'd like to be able to resolve these issues for you now.

If you feel able to get in touch with me to share some details, my team will look into your case and try to resolve it ASAP. My email is jacki.smart@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and my telephone number is 01413146928. Please do get in touch to allow us to help.

Kind regards

Jacki
