"Night in the Sleep Laboratory"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I attended the Sleep Clinic and spent an uncomfortable night in the sleep lab. The amount of equipment attached to your body is not conducive to a restful night's sleep but I understand has to be done. The staff wake you up at 6 am, remove all the electrodes etc and send you on your way, without even a cup of tea nor anywhere to get one! . This is poor. I waited so long for the results - when you ring, either no-one answers any of the numbers, or they say "I think it'll be another couple of weeks". Emails get ignored too. Eventually I got an appt following my email (which wasn't answered until AFTER I'd received the appt). This was changed, by them, at very short notice to a Saturday morning and I had the courtesy to attend. I sat outside the Consultant's office for 50 mins during which time they saw only one patient who arrived AFTER me. This consultation lasted 5 mins. I complained twice and then was seen, only to be told there was no evidence of me having walked around the room in my sleep in the sleep lab. I emphasised that I had had a conversation about this the following morning with the technician who had been watching me all night on the monitor. They said they would review my case. Eventually I received a brief letter in December, advising me there was no evidence on the video that I had walked about.......if only he had discussed this with the technician he would know I had! ! What a complete waste of my precious time.
