My father has recently had a recurrence of a prostate issue following general anaesthetic for something else. A very unfortunate coincidence. Currently he is having to use a catheter and my parents are very distressed about the whole situation. We met with the consultant Mr Rizvi to discuss options, including a TURP procedure, which frankly I was concerned about; it seems to be somewhat risky and by no means a guaranteed fix. He advised that the operation wasn't really suitable in this case - My father is 81 and quite frail with a number of chronic conditions including Parkinsons. The consultant was extremely thorough and patient, we had a good, constructive dialogue and agreed a pathway that hopefully over a few months shrink the prostate with drugs to allow a return to "normal" function. At no time did we feel rushed - Mr Rizvi was extremely knowledgeable and I left confident that the way forward. Nursing staff were lovely and we were seen pretty quickly too. Full marks!
