"Wonderful maternity care"

About: Mid Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I gave birth to my daughter at the mid Argyll community hospital in Lochgilphead. The maternity ward at the Mach was amazing. The midwives are all so friendly and although we were assigned our own specific midwife we soon got to know all the other midwives in the department.

Throughout my pregnancy I saw the midwives either in my home or at the hospital, which ever suited me best. My appointments were thorough and I felt like my needs as an expectant mother were being listened to and met. They took the time to get to know us and what we wanted when it came to the birth of our baby.

Through the maternity unit my partner and I were able to attend anti natal classes where we were introduced to other expectant parents. These were really beneficial as new to the area I didn't know many people. If I had any problems or questions throughout my pregnancy I was able to contact a midwife at anytime for help and was always made to feel welcome. The midwives were able to refer me to a physiotherapist for a pelvic problem I was suffering from.

The midwives also provided an aquanatal class at the local swimming pool, this was a great way to stay fit and also meet other expectant mums. I was also able to attend hypnobirthing classes which helped me to feel positive and calm about labour. I felt supported, comfortable and also important.

I was very lucky to be able to give birth to my daughter at the Mid Argyll community hospital in their wonderful maternity unit. The unit has a lovely calm and comfortable feel about it and our midwives on the day Lorna and Brenda were able to support my partner and I to have a very positive birthing experience. We were able to stay at home where we wanted to be until we felt ready to come in to the unit.

Lorna and Brenda came out to the house to visit us twice through my labour and were incredibly supportive. They prepared the unit for our arrival and were there wait for us when we came in. Lorna and Brenda were amazing during the actual birth and I believe the wonderful care we received helped my daughters birth go so smoothly.

After my daughter was born and when I was ready we were able to leave and go home which was great. The midwives were back the next morning and continued to visit providing support and encouragement until we were discharged.

We feel incredibly lucky that we were able to have our baby locally in Lochgilphead under the care of such a great team. Special thanks to Brenda and Lorna for all they did to help during the birth of our little girl.

Dear Natham84,

Thank you so much for this truly wonderful posting on Patient Opinion and I must apologise for the delay in responding - I am just back from the festive break today. I have forwarded on your posting to my colleagues in Argyll & Bute who were equally delighted to receive such positive feedback. It is so encouraging to hear about the detailed reflection of you and your partner and how positive your experience was throughout your pregnancy and birth. Being able to birth your daughter in the lovely Midwifery Unit in Lochgilphead was the icing on the cake! I will ensure that Midwives Brenda & Lorna see your posting personally - they too will be just thrilled.

On behalf of my Argyll & Bute colleagues I would like to wish you all the very best for the coming year with your little baby daughter along with many congratulations to you all.

Best wishes.
