"Dementia care"

As a family who have had to admit an absolutely amazing and loving dad and husband into the care system, we feel that both us and my dad have been totally let down which makes the distress of our decision more intolerable. He was admitted for respite and within 4 weeks he cannot recognise us feed and toilet himself, we would never criticise the nursing staff in any way because they are so short on the ground and do their best but my Dad is on a 1-1 basis at the moment because of anxiety and aggression which seems to be a fundamental failure of care here not just of my dad but other patients I have witnessed in interaction. I will post this to anyone who will listen and will not let it go until I know that things will improve.

Dear Anonymous,

I am so sorry to hear that you feel let down by the care your father has received at Woodlands Hospital and that he has deteriorated whilst he’s been an inpatient on one of our wards.

I would like to check and make sure that you and your Dad are OK, so it would be really helpful if you would get in touch to let us know the ward he is being treated on, and also your details so we can provide any help that you need.

We really try hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients and would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully to keep on developing the care and services we provide.

Could you either contact us through NHS Choices, or phone our Customer Care Team, so they can look into this for you. Freephone 0800 587 4793 / landline (0161) 358 0600 or email customercare@gmw.nhs.uk.

I have also discussed this with the Matron of Woodlands Hospital who would be happy to meet with you to discuss any of your concerns.

Thank you.
