I went into Macclesfield General Hospital to have my wrist pinned and reset. I had broken it whilst on holiday in Thailand, when I cam back I still felt discomfort. I went and had it checked out at my hospital and they said that it would need to be reset. I have now had this done and I am free from pain and have made a full recovery. The surgeons were brilliant, they had obviously not treated me properly in Thailand, although the nursing care that I received there was very good.
However, although the surgeons were excellent here in Macclesfield, the nurses were not. I have a list of concerns and I feel very distressed about the level of care that I received. No one came when I needed assistance when I was sick because of the morphine, my daughter had to reach for a bed pan for me to be sick in. The nurses did not come to help me at all. Another time, I was placed on a commode seat on the toilet and left for 20 mins. Though I eventually managed to see to myself with my wrist in plaster, I was then unable to wash my hands. When it came for food to come around they offered me some biscuits. I said that I had not washed my hands and they went and wet the corner of a paper towel and just wiped the middle section of my hand. This is not good enough.
On another occasion, I dropped one of my tablets on to the floor I told the nurse and she expected me to put this tablet in my mouth. I was not prepared to do this and they went out of the ward shouting.
I was also moved to another bed in the middle of the night. The next morning there was no one to help me get to the bathroom. No lunch was available for me, only corn flakes, the cutlery was also dirty. I felt the standard of nursing care that I experienced was very poor, I was told that there was some confusion about who was meant to be looking after me. As a result of my experience, I do not want to go into this hospital again.
