In October was unwell and phoned the Crisis Team (County). I had seen my CPN that day and she knew I was struggling, she told me to ring the Crisis Team if I became more unwell and ask to be referred to Haven House to keep myself safe. I rang and was told that as they did not have an up to date risk assessment that they couldn't do this. They offered no further support or advice. Later that night I went to A and E at QMC. I was hearing voices and they told me not to speak to anyone. I handed a hand written note at the check in desk explaining this and was told to wait for triage.
It was very busy in A and E and I became more unwell, taped my mouth closed with some tape I found lying around, banged my head against the wall, hid behind the vending machine for a period of time and wandered around the department. After several hours I had not been triaged. I wrote a note again and gave it to a nurse. I was triaged and taken to a cubicle where their was a security guard. There was no bed so I lay down on the floor. A nurse came in and called me 'Christine'. This is not my name. She searched my bag then gave it back to me. Another nurse later on also called me Christine. No one asked if I had harmed myself.
Still unable to speak I was moved to an interview room with the male security guard to wait for the Duty Psych to see me. After more hours and having had no medical care, I left the department. The Police rang and asked if I was ok. I just said "mmmm" and put the phone down.
The next morning my CPN arranged for me to go to Haven House. The first night I was there I awoke with a nightmare and came downstairs to find a member of staff that should be awake, asleep. The second night I woke up very distressed and the same worker was asleep again. They woke up and said -Oh its you-and promptly went back to sleep whilst I sobbed under the dining table. The next morning the staff had erected a message board in the lounge. I wrote on there exactly what had happened the night before. Some of the staff read it but not single one talked to me about it.
I do not find this kind of crisis care in any way acceptable and it has taken until now for me to get the courage up to complain. I welcome your comments.
