"Fantastic stay on ward 7 DRI"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

I am writing on behalf of my 86 year old grandmother who has recently had a stay on ward 7 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. She was admitted with a knee joint effusion where she was in unbearable pain, unable to weight bare or mobilise. After being seen in A&E, being moved to ward 9 where her care was less than satisfactory she was then moved to ward 7. All of the staff on this ward could not be more caring, helpful and friendly. The staff made my grandmother feel safe in what can be a very scary environment for an elderly lady in a huge amount of pain. My grandmother reported feeling like the staff 'treated her like a human with feelings'; not just 'another patient' or a number. She felt like they understood her and couldn't do enough for her. They all gave her the encouragement and confidence to progress, especially the physiotherapist who was also very gentle, kind and encouraging. This gave her the confidence to mobilise and after a couple of days be able to mobilise with sticks and to go home with community physiotherapy follow up. My grandmother and I would just like to thank all the staff on ward 7 for the unconditional care and support they provided whilst in hospital, you all deserve medals and the recognition as you are doing a fantastic job! Thank you and Merry Christmas.... Jane Killinger and Eileen Nightingale.
