"Antenatal care/maternity assessment unit"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Maternity

I am extremely disappointed with the antenatal/the maternity assessment unit/maternity wards at Princess Royal. I was told to go to pruh after I had an appointment with a midwife and my blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine.

When I arrived I was told there would be a while wait, after standing outsidd the door buzzing for 30 minutes to actually be let in, there was only 2 midwives working on the ward rushed off their feet obviously and dealing with at least 10 pregnant women.

I waited to be seen, and when I was I explained why I had been referred here and again I waited another 30 mins for my bloods and blood pressure to be taken.

Another midwife come to see me after they had been taken and told me that I could have pre-eclampsia and they need to wait for my bloods to come back and for the doctor. I was told to go and get a drink and something to eat and come back in an hour. I had arrived there at 4pm and it was now 7pm. Me and my partner left to get some food & came back around 8.30 only to be left waiting in the waiting area with the midwives just walking past us not asking us why we was there. We was taken back to the assessment unit beds and told to wait as the doctor still wasn't here.

So we waited until 10pm, finally the doctor came and said it was suspected pre-eclampsia and there was protein in my urine meaning they want me to stay in and do a 24hr urine test and monitor me.

I was told a midwife would move me to the ward in '20 mins' by now as the night staff were on shift there was only one midwife in the whole of the maternity assessment unit and a number of different pregnant women, even the midwife was getting confused with patients and the lack of care/sympathy was unbelievable. I was finally moved to the ward at 1am after waiting from 10pm. The only reason they moved me then was because I complained of my feet swelling otherwise I still would have been forgotten about!

When I was moved to the ward I was told a midwife would be round to see me and take blood pressure and give me my urine collection pot, after waiting until 2.30am it was finally given to me and I could sleep. I was told a midwife would be round every 2 hours to monitor me and my baby as my blood pressure was ridiculously high,

I did not see any midwife again until 6am. When they came at 6am it was 2 student midwifes who did not explain a thing to me just told me I'm at 'high risk of a blood clot and you need this injection in your stomach' I was not explained why they was doing this or what it prevents. My stay there was hell and put me off having my baby there, the midwives have no care or respect and I can't even begin to write all the things that have happened to me whist there because there is not enough space! Basically the midwives are so unfriendly and rude, especially to me, and give conflicting information! Do not recommend
