"Birth centre labour"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

After being in labour for 3 days, I was finally able to go in hospital to be assessed and thankfully was now in full labour. A simple question "would you like to use the birth centre" how glad I am that I did. As soon as I walked in the light setting, the sound of the pool being filled, a lazy boy chair for my husband to relax in and no hospital bed, brought an instant feeling of calm to us both. Each midwife who helped was a credit to the hospital. They were attentive, gave suggestions based on what I wanted and helped me through my contractions. I was in labour for 4 hours much better then the 24 hours in my first labour.

The pool was soothing the heat helped. Along with gas and air I felt able to cope.

Even after labour the care that was given to me was amazing and the midwives were patient with me. Being in the birth centre I was given my own private room to recover and we were able to go home 6 hours after.

Everyone I spoke to during pregnancy always wished me luck for choosing this hospital again, I know I made the right choice and I cannot recommend this department and all the midwives that work there. They are amazing at what they do. So thank you for making what could have been a traumatic experience a memorable one for me my husband and new baby.

Dear Llg

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your positive experience in our Maternity Department and many congratulations on the birth of your new baby. It is pleasing to hear how well you were attended to during your labour and how the environment helped you and your husband while you were in hospital.

I shall pass on your kind words about the staff that you met in the Birth Centre to the midwives involved, as this will mean a great deal to them. It is always lovely to receive a compliment.

I would also like to thank you for your recommendation of maternity services at Croydon Health Services

Kind Regards

Hilary Frayne
