"Admitted to mat ward Dec 16"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Maternity

I was admitted to the pruh in Dec 2016, 23 weeks pregnant and with a kidney stone and uti. The staff at a&e saw me within minutes of arriving and quickly referred me to the maternity ward. The staff were very good, clearly very busy but very helpful when I was in a lot of pain. I was admitted for 2 nights and cannot fault the manner of the nurses or doctors. Neither can I fault the cleanliness of the ward which was immaculate. The only I do have concerns is re communication between doctors and midwifes and back to me. My doctor told me they wanted to give me stronger painkillers as the medication I was given wasn't helping. The drugs didn't arrive and when I asked about them (in a lot of distress) having waited an hour and a half, they told me it was because the midwifes didn't want to give them to me because Of the baby... totally fair enough, but no one told me or explained what plan b was! I was left in a lot of pain and this happened a couple of times which was upsetting as I was literally climbing the walls in pain. Having said all of that I have no doubt everyone was acting in my best interests... they could have just communicated between themselves and to me, better.

Many thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, particularly at a difficult time for you.

We very much appreciate it.

I will pass on your comments to our Head of Midwifery at the PRUH, who I am sure will want to hear about your experience.

I do hope that you and baby are now doing well.

Thank you again.
