Best bits: My friend was brought from a frantically busy ward into a much more tranquil environment in which her fears left her and she began to recover. The staff were very caring and she developed confidence in them. They were all, doctors, nurses and therapists, very professional in their approach and were most helpful in the way in which they passed on information to me. The ward was very clean and my friend was very well cared for. The kitchen provided good food and catered well for her individual needs.
Worst bits: There was really only one area which caused concern- due to shortage of staff the toilet needs were a problem and this caused a high level of stress for her and for us as well.
What should change: There is a big need to increase the level of staffing for nurses and auxillary help to deal with basic needs of patients – especially toileting. The stress level was brought about not by staff being negligent or uncaring but on shortage of people.
"Need to increase the level of staffing for nurses"
