"Surgery cancelled 5days before"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital / Gynaecology

I have been waiting since August for a date for surgery got date for 13th December and my pre op for 8th.

I went today for pre-op told surgery is going a head only to receive a phone call today 8/12/16 few hours after pre op to say sorry but they have cancelled mybsurgery (hysterectomy) as there is only one surgeon and an emergency has came in an needs my place. 6 months of waiting for this and 7years of beingbun pain and not knowing what is causing the problems I have. Find it very hard to believe that there is only 1 surgeon who can do this surgery and other patients get made to wait in agony for another month an that's even if they don't cancel again.

Being a full time career for my son who has autism with no help is hard enough with out being in total agony an not being able to take painkiller throu the day is even worse. I am angry upset and disappointed that I have been tossed aside after waiting for so long an 5days before it gets cancelled

Liverpool Women’s hospital apologise for the short notice cancellation of your surgery, this is something we try really hard not to do as we recognise the distress and difficulties this causes for our patients. We would only cancel surgery at short notice for very exceptional reasons and assure you that every effort will have been tried before we resorted to cancelling planned surgery.

We are currently reviewing our theatre and ward capacity to increase the number of operations we can perform each week, these changes should reduce further the chances of cancelling surgery.

If you would like to discuss your case in more detail please contact our PALS department on 0151 702 4353 or via email on PALS@lwh.nhs.uk
