Presented to the emergency department, QMC, after having problems with the community mental health services for months, feeling very suicidal and having had self harmed. Alice, the streaming nurse was patient and understanding.
However, when I asked for pain relief from other staff due to the self harm I was denied on numerous occasions. The department of psychological medicine did a very brief assessment and did not feel that I was able to express my concerns.
Also, important information about my presentation (that I had self harmed) was not passed on to the DPM team meaning that I did not feel listened to.
I am also an employee of NUH and it made it incredibly awkward to be sat, so clearly distressed, whilst coworkers and colleagues walked past.
Overall, a very disappointing and upsetting experience.
