"By far the majority of staff were ..."

About: Selly Oak Hospital (Acute)

(as a relative),

What I liked

By far the majority of staff were professional and caring. Good approach, showed empathy and understanding. Good cleanliness and hygiene. Ward Housekeeper most pleasant and helpful. Friendly staff. Excellent medical care - a bit tardy about reviewing medication though - put down to pressure of work.

What could be improved

A few of the carers were a bit brusque and didn't understand the patients needs. Too task- orientated. Most were good.

Communication was a little slack at times - nurses didn't always return with answers (to immobile patient) but this was usually agency staff on exceptionally busy days. Relatives got answers, so assume this was simply due to pressure of work.

Anything else?

Nursing was excellent. Paid attention to the little things. Took time to give information to anxious relatives in a professional and reassuring fashion. Answered questions promptly and effectively. Pleasant approach.Good hand hygiene noted.
