About: Russells Hall Hospital

From the day of admission to the day of discharge four weeks later,

Russells Hall failed to provide the most basic of medical needs - the provision of the right medication at the right time - which directly contributed to the sudden decline in condition of my mother-in-law. Communication within the ward teams was non-existent. At no time did any of the staff inform the family of Mum's condition unless directly challenged by one of the family. No consideration given to the medical conditions Mum was admitted with. Her physical health deteriorated rapidly. Her medical conditions exacerbated by the consistent failure to provide the most fundamental of needs - food, water, medication, a wash even. Despite raising complaints multiple times, nothing was done by any of the staff to address the family's concerns. Absolutely appalled at the so called 'care' standards we have witnessed over the last month. Granted you don't need admitting ti hospital unless you're really poorly, but you do not expect someone's condition to rapidly decline while in the hospital - failing to provide medication at the times she is supposed to have it and directly causing rapid decline is absolutely inexcusable.

Noted that the Department we were on is not even mentioned in the listing options and so I've had to select 'don't know' - says it all.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your mum’s experience of Russells Hall Hospital. We are very sorry to hear that you were so unhappy with your mum’s experience of our hospital.

We aim to offer all our patients the very highest standards of care and the best possible experience, and so we are very disappointed that we fell short of this aim during your mum’s stay.

Some of the issues you have raised are really concerning and we would urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team on free phone 0800 073 0510 who would be happy to help in any way they can.
