"Others may not have the support I have or the motivation"

About: Adult Mental Health and Learning Disabilities / Adult Community Mental Health Teams

(as the patient),

I have had contact with Mental Health Services over a number of years. I have a history of reoccurring depression and have sought help at moments of crisis. I have not been able to access a counsellor at the gp surgery for a number of years and the talking therapy/IAPT group have been unable to help. I self referred the day after I miscarried as I knew it would effect my mental health - after months worth of letters back and forth and a phone assessment I was told to contact a local charity. I was unable to access this counselling due to distance and working hours. I struggled to find affordable counselling that fitted round work and was accessible. My mental health slowly worsened and I was referred to the Community Mental Health team. I had two history taking appointments and was sent for blood tests and an ecg to start on medication.

A prescription never came through the post and after a months worth of calls I got an appointment. At this appointment I was told that I needed another history (same questions) and they would up my antidepressant. I burst into tears as had been waiting a month for the prescription I thought would help me. I was prescribed a mood stabiliser that I'd had before, but had caused sedation at low doses. I had a horrible couple of weeks on this and ended up at the walk in but didn't stay, as 2 hour wait.

I called consultant when low on tablets and she suggested tapering them off and starting on other medication. I received a letter saying my appointment was being rescheduled for a month later but no prescription. I called up that day and later that week and then today when I ran out of the previous meds. Was told that the prescription had been lost in the post and that I can go pick up another one. Wish this had happened when I called the first time as have waiting in limbo again. Hope these tablets work as my condition has severely worsened over the past few months and is threatening my job and relationship. Wish chmt would ensure messages are passed on promptly and appointments are recorded properly. Hope I am just unlucky. Others may not have the support I have or the motivation to keep calling and will just give up, lose trust and stop all medication.
