I attended the day care unit yesterday for keyhole gallbladder surgery and was home for 8.30 the same evening . I felt compelled to write a review to remind us why the NHS is the jewel in our crown .
I received a high level of care, respect ,privacy and professionalism.
All the staff, the lovely person from house keeping sharing a joke about the sun, the nursing staff amazing as well as getting to grips with new system .the ward sister, with a wicked and upbeat sense of humour clearly highly regarded by their staff .
I had consultations with one of the surgeons and anaesthetists .They both explained clearly ,with patients and empathy the procedure I would be having as well as any risks that may occur .
Then it was like a seamless chain ,escorted to surgery by friendly professional porters, met with surgical team again, explaining and reassuring at all times .The surgical staff in theatre and recovery ,caring ,so proficient ,highly skilled . Back on the unit, nothing too much trouble for the nursing staff and it is so obvious their aim is us! the patient , above and beyond their job . I was given a lovely tray of food by catering staff, wish I could have eaten it all .
I was discharged only when I felt ready to leave with all the necessary paper work and details relating to my op,thank you the ward sister.
"Gallbladder surgery, the NHS at its best."
